I AM fed up with everyone who supports a candidate for president. It's not because they support a candidate. Obviously that's a good thing. It's because they pretend that the reason they don't like the other guy has something to do with character, or ethics, or snything like that. If you think that's what it's about, let me be the first to inform you: it isn't.

Bush supporters say John Kerry is indecisive, insincere, opportunistinc, etc. Kerry supporters say Bush is stupid, rash, abrasive, etc. Well, all of those things may be true, but they're not the reason you oppose them. I'm sure democrats would be perfectly content voting for a stupid democrat, and republicans would be perfectly content voting for an opportunistic republican.

It's not the character. It's the policies. Not to say that character doesn't matter, just that it's not something anybody really knows. We hear a lot around election time about the candidates' characters. We hear it all from their opponents -- does the thought ever cross anybody's mind that they might be a little bit less than honest in presenting their opponents' characters?

So go ahead and support your candidate and oppose his opponent. But be open about why. Not because the other guy is stupid or indecisive -- but because the other guy's policies conflict with your own well-constructed view of the world.
